Ever felt like you are overwhelmed with your tasks at hand, and things are racking up faster than you can provide solutions?
This past Sunday, after which Cat and I finished our late brunch session with some friends of ours, we were right back at it in our attempt to deal with the hundreds and million of little things that one has go through when they decided to take on the task of being your own wedding co-ordinator.
We thought that we could find a nice location on The Drive where we can sit and go through our list of things, but instead, we ran into the Portuguese Community coming full on to celebrate their win at Euro 2016. Which is still good, by the way! It gave Cat a chance to experience how we sports enthusiast celebrates after wins!
Diverted from our plan, I quickly thought of coming over to Platform 7, a place that I absolutely enjoyed when I visited couple of times in the past on my own. Surely, it’s still busy as usual, but it’s no where near as crazy as it would’ve been on the Drive! It gave me a chance to finally try out Stumptown’s Nitro Cold Brew, which I must say, is quite an experience! The rich flavour of coffee is perfectly extracted with the cold brew method; each sip from the cup gives you a mouthful of richly favoured, creamy sensation that exhilarates your taste buds.
Cat immediately fell in love with the atmosphere of the shop. It’s celling and brew bar reminds you of a train station, which makes perfect sense given its name. The baristas are cool and friendly, and you can conduct a nice conversation with them as if they are your next door neighbour and have known each other for ages. It is located at the corner of West Broadway and Vine St., on the main floor corner of an historic 2 story building. It reminds me much of the Stumptown Coffee Bar that I absolutely adores when I visited in Portland in the past. It’s a place that would function as a social hub in the neighbourhood, a place to carry out conversations, to read a nice novel, or just to get some work done. With the ever changing neighbourhoods in Vancouver in recent years, it seems like places such as this is becoming a rare commodity.
Cat and I sat down along the huge glass window by the front door, over looking West Broadway. We took a moment taking our usual photos when we get to somewhere interesting, then we get right down to business. We first started out by sharing our hearts on some of the issues that we have been facing; sometimes they would be things that we have on each other, other times it could be things that we are generally dealing with in life. As our wedding is less then three months away, most of the things that we talked about are really just unfinished tasks directly related to our wedding plan.
We first wrote everything down on a list before we started to tackle them one by one. It’s quite amazing how two brain works better together, as we both have tried to solve some of these issues for a while during our spare time, but neither of us seems to be able to find a solution. But as we bump our heads together, these issues started to resolve by themselves one after the other, and really brought to life what it is written in the Bible:
Two are better than one, because they have good return for their labour: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up… – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
As the afternoon washes away by the trains of our thoughts, we have accomplished so much more then we had plan for, and that feeling of things racking up faster then you can provide solutions for became nothing but a distant memory. Feeling reenergized, we packed our bags and walked into the warmth of the evening Sun. It was like a monkey off our backs with the amount of things we were able to accomplish. An afternoon of brainstorming, problem solving and laying out action plans brought new excitement to our wedding plan. Life is a long journey, you need a place to help you to just stopover and reset.
The adventure continues….
